The Regional Coordinating Office (RCO) coordinates regional inputs for policies, regulations and standards to build and maintain an efficient government information system to support national economic development. It also provides strategic leadership, technical and administrative support for the implementation of the mandate of the Department.
The Regional Coordinating Office coordinates, supervises and monitors activities and operations of the 16 regional offices and 261 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs). These include Research Surveys, Public Education Campaigns (PECs), Performance Appraisals, Access to Information, Public Relations, and Providing of Articles for the Media Division amongst others.

Functions of the Regional Coordinating Office
- Coordinates, supervises and monitors all the activities of the regional and district offices.
- Collaborates with the Public Education Coordinating Division (PECD) to undertake public education and campaigns.
- The office facilitates training programmes for field officers on any PECs.
- Gathers research data on issues of national interest, at the regional and district levels.
- The unit collates feedback on initiatives implemented at the regional and district levels for onward transmission to government.
Functions of the Regional Information Offices
- Supervises Public Education and Campaigns.
- Scouts for Public Education and Campaigns at the Regional level.
- Collaborates in the preparation and distribution of press releases.
- Collects and processes public reaction report on any Government policies, programmes and activities for onward transmission to the Head Office and Parliament.
- Facilitates, designs activities and programmes that have comparative advantage to the people in the Regions.
Functions of Metropolitan/Municipal/District Officers
- Embark on Public Education Campaigns.
- Collaborate in the preparation and distribution of press releases.
- Serve as spokespersons for the Metropolitan, Municipal, District Assemblies.
- Write situational and reaction reports as well as feature articles.
- Conduct surveys
Some Accomplishments of the Regional Coordinating Office
The RCO successfully coordinated, supervised and monitored the underlisted public education and campaigns
- Street announcement project for GRIDCO on the dangers of mounting illegal structures around high-tension poles in June 2024.
- Single Window Citizens Engagement Services (SWCES) in collaboration with the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection in February 2024.
- Sensitization campaign on the implementation of the Electronic Transaction Levy (E-Levy) for the Ghana Revenue Authority and Ministry of Finance in May 2022.
- Ghanaâs third and first digital Population and Housing Census (PHC) data collection exercise in 2021.
- Public education and campaign on COVID-19 with the Ministry of Health in 2020.
- Public education and campaign on the need to register for the Ghana Card for the National Identification Authority in November 2019.
- Agric Census campaign for the Ministry of Food and Agriculture in April 2018.
- Public education and campaign on the Ghana National Household Registry for the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection since 2016.
- Collaborated and executed sensitization programmes with the Ghana Health Service (GHS) on various health related issues.
