The Right to Information (RTI) Act 2019, Act 989, received a boost in awareness through a series of radio interviews conducted by the Right to Information Unit of the Information Services Department, representing both the Ahafo Regional Coordinating Council and the Asunafo North Municipal Assembly.
In the first interview session, held on Hammers Radio, RTI Officers Mr. Theophilus Nti-Antwi and Mr. Obed Asante Amoah, from the Ahafo Regional Coordinating Council and Asunafo North Municipal Assembly, respectively, were hosted by Mr. Bukari Ahmed Tijani.
During this interview, the RTI Officers provided a comprehensive understanding of the RTI Law, its history, and the rights of individuals to request information from public and relevant private institutions. They emphasized the need for written requests, either through an application or a template form provided by the RTI Unit.
The Officers underscored that information is intended for the public, irrespective of age or nationality, as per Article 21 of the 1992 constitution. The process of accessing information was explained, and it was noted that such requests are generally free, with charges applicable for A4 sheets.
The RTI Officers highlighted the relevance of the RTI Act to the residents of Asunafo North Municipality, emphasizing its role in promoting transparency and accountability. The session concluded with an open invitation for the public to seek information or clarifications.
In the second interview, held on Nananom FM, Mr. Theophilus Nti-Antwi and Mr. Obed Asante Amoah once again emphasized the importance of the RTI Act and the rights of individuals to access information. They encouraged the public to contact them when they require information and reiterated that there is no charge for requested information.
The radio interviews were essential in raising awareness about the RTI Act, ensuring that the public in Goaso and its surrounding areas is informed about their rights under the Act, and fostering transparency and accountability.
