The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Iddie Kofi Adams, has indicated that the Ministry will establish a School Sports Agency to help organize major events such as the Ghana Technical Universities Sports Association Games, as well as monitor young talents.
He made this known at the launch of the 3rd Ghana Technical Universities Sports Association (GHATUSA) Games at the Robert Mensah Stadium on Monday in Cape Coast.
He pledged his unwavering commitment to bring lasting solutions to the challenges facing the sports sector which included inadequate infrastructure, insufficient funding, management inefficiencies and limited grassroots development.
“With these setbacks, government is committed to resetting the sports ecosystem through infrastructure development and sustained funding mechanisms to promote sports development,” he said.
The Minister commended GHATUSA for their sustained commitment in nurturing sports talents since the inception of the GHATUSA Games and pointed to the fact that the Games would be organized not only for competition but would also be used as a platform for talent identification and preparation for commonwealth and Olympic Games.
The 3rd GHATUSA Games is scheduled to be hosted by the Cape Coast Technical University and expected to discover and identify promising athletes in various sporting disciplines from technical universities across the nation.
