Ministry of Environment Empowers Senior Staff with Right to Information Knowledge

Accra, 2023- The Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation (MESTI) conducted a vital sensitization workshop for its senior staff on Wednesday, July 26, 2023. The workshop aimed to enhance understanding of the Right to Information (RTI) Act and was well attended by senior personnel, including Cephas Adjei Mensah, Director of RSIM, and Cecilia Nyadia, Director of Human Resources.

Two skilled facilitators, George Frimpong Basoah and Senanu Nyadroh from the Access to Information (ATI) Division, guided the participants through the intricate details of the RTI Act (Act 989). The workshop covered essential RTI Act topics, including the purpose of the act, access to information, the procedure for requesting information, exempt information categories, appeal mechanisms, the role of the RTI Commission, offenses, and the fee structure.

After the presentations, there was an interactive session where participants had the opportunity to ask questions and seek clarifications. The event concluded successfully with facilitators praising MESTI’s institutionalization of the RTI Act.

Facilitators encouraged directors and staff to collaborate with the Right to Information Officer, emphasizing the importance of vigilance and adhering to processing timelines. MESTI’s commitment to educating its senior staff on the RTI Act underlines its dedication to transparency and accountability, promoting informed and engaged citizenship.

This workshop is a significant step in ensuring government institutions remain open and responsive to public inquiries, ultimately enhancing governance transparency and efficiency.
