On February 11, 2025, the Krowor Municipal Assembly, in collaboration with Latenu Radio 96.1, hosted an informative radio program to educate the residents of Nungua and surrounding communities about the Right to Information Act, 2019 (Act 989). The session, led by Miss Edem Abla Afari, the RTI Officer, aimed to provide crucial insights into the Act, highlighting its role in enhancing transparency and accountability in government and public institutions. By reaching out through the radio, the assembly ensured that the RTI message reached a broad audience, enabling both urban and rural residents to understand their rights and the process of accessing public information.
Miss Afari detailed the core provisions of the RTI Act during the broadcast, explaining how the law empowers citizens to request information from public authorities. She emphasized that public institutions must respond to requests within a stipulated timeframe, reinforcing the importance of formal written requests to initiate the process. The RTI Officer also highlighted how this law plays a key role in fostering a more transparent government, allowing residents to hold public bodies accountable and ensuring that their governance processes remain inclusive and responsive to community needs.

The radio program also featured an interactive segment where residents of Nungua and surrounding areas were invited to call in with their questions. Many callers expressed their appreciation for the clarity of the information shared and shared their intention to use the RTI Act as a tool for requesting vital information from local authorities. These interactions underscored the community’s growing understanding of the law’s significance in advocating for better governance and advancing the development agenda. The residents’ commitment to using the RTI Act marks an important step in nurturing a proactive citizenry engaged in democratic processes.
This initiative is a significant milestone in the Krowor Municipality’s efforts to promote sustainable development and democratic participation. By equipping residents with the knowledge of their rights under the RTI Act, the Krowor Municipal Assembly is contributing to the creation of an informed, active, and accountable citizenry. As more residents embrace the RTI Act, the community is set to benefit from greater government transparency and a stronger foundation for community-driven development.
