The Information Services Department (ISD) has organised an in-house training on the use of Smartworkplace, a Microsoft software introduced by the government to enable Public and Civil Servants to interact and carry out their official duties virtually.
The practical hands-on training, which started two months ago at the head office in Accra was organised by the staff of the Information Technology (IT) Section of the ISD.
In a remark at the closing ceremony, the Technical Officer-in-charge of the training, Mr. Adulphus Annang said the government has introduced the Smartworkplace software in all state institutions in wake of the COVID-19 pandemic to reduce physical contact of the public sector workers.
He added that the software has numerous interfaces to enable public sector workers to hold virtual video meetings, conferences, workshops and perform all the official duties such as procurement, store requisition, vehicle request, e-leave and expenditure initiation virtually.
He said the introduction of the software was also in line with the governmentâs vision of reducing the use of paper in public institutions.
He added that the Smartworkplace would enable government officials to communicate securely and urged officers to constantly use the platform to be conversant with its operations.
The exercise began with the training of the Directors, Divisional Heads, Regional Information Officers and staff of the various Sections and Units of the Department.
