Public Relations Coordinating Division (PRCD)
The Public Relations Coordinating Division (PRCD) exists to provide highly qualified professional public relations human resource support and expertise to public sector institutions including Ghana’s missions abroad.
The Division implements the Department’s publicity and advocacy plans and provides technical assistance on media relations, advocacy, social marketing and networking activities.
THE ROLE OF THE DIVISION IN ACHIEVING ISD’S MANDATE
The Public Relations Coordinating Division (PRCD) helps the Information Services Department (ISD) to undertake its mandate of providing Public Relations support to Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), Regional Coordinating Councils (RCCs), and Ghana’s Foreign Missions abroad.
This role is important in the governance structure in terms of sending government information to the people and bringing feedback for either policy strengthening or create change in policy direction. This is achieved through the use of traditional and new media in dissemination of public information as well as building a database of government information for effective management of government communication.
The Division has two (2) units, namely PR Management and Sector Specific PR Reporting, which help the Division in achieving its mandate within the larger ISD.
Media Division
The Media Division of the Information Services Department is responsible for the production and circulation of media content about programmes and activities of government through news stories, features and audio-visual materials.
The Division also focuses on engaging with the media, fostering positive relationships, and ensuring accurate representation of Government initiatives.
ROLE OF MEDIA DIVISION IN ACHIEVING ISD’S MANDATE
The Media Division contributes to the achievement of the Department’s mandate, by producing and distributing news stories, features and audio-visual materials about Government policies, programmes and activities through the various Departmental news channels, main stream media and online outlets to ensure that the public is always well informed.
Public Education Coordinating Division
The participation of the Citizenry in national affairs plays a key role in the development of a nation. In achieving this objective, the importance of information cannot be over emphasized.
The Information Services Department which is the government’s public relations and communication outfit is mandated to play this key role through the provision of public education and sensitization programmes to the citizenry. At ISD, the Public Education Coordinating Division (PECD) is the implementation wing of the public education function of the Department to achieve this participation within the governance system.
ROLE OF THE DIVISION IN ACHIEVING ISD’S MANDATE
The Public Education Coordinating Division of the Department is responsible for the organization, coordinating, implementation and review of public education campaigns to the citizenry on government policies and programmes. This is to enable the citizenry be well informed for effective participation towards good governance and national development.
Research Division
The Research Division is responsible for the collation of accurate and timely feedback on Government policies, programmes, and perception from the citizenry through scientific means, a regular monitoring of activities in the media space and the documentation of collated information.
The Division has three sections under it, namely; the Statistics Section, Media Monitoring Section and the Library Unit.
THE ROLE RESEARCH DIVISION PLAYS IN ACHIEVING THE CORE MANDATE OF THE INFORMATION SERVICES DEPARTMENT (ISD)
Research Division within the Information Services Department helps the Department gather relevant and accurate information from various sources, such as citizens, media space, other secondary sources of information and send feedback to government. This information is essential for the Government to stay up-to-date with current trends and people’s perceptions on their actions and inactions.
The Division achieves this through its Statistics, Media Monitoring, and Library and Documentation Units by regularly conducting nationwide research on Government programmes, policies and initiatives, a daily real time monitoring of the media landscape and documentation of such information for both external and internal use, respectively.
