The Church of Christ in Kukurantumi played host to an important sensitization program on the Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2019 (Act 989), on March 30, 2025, where an Information Officer led discussions on the significance of the law in promoting transparency, accountability, and community development. The session aimed to equip congregants with the knowledge and understanding necessary to effectively exercise their constitutional right to access information held by public institutions and government-funded non-governmental organizations.
The sensitization program underscored the fundamental role of the RTI Act in deepening democratic governance by fostering a culture of openness. Participants were given an overview of the historical background of the Act, its benefits, and the step-by-step procedures for requesting information. The Information Officer emphasized that the Act empowers citizens to actively engage in decision-making processes by ensuring they have access to critical public information. Additionally, it was clarified that certain groups, including indigent individuals, persons with disabilities, and those classified as poor, are exempt from paying fees when requesting information.
