On September 4, 2024, the Ho West District office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) inaugurated an inter-party dialogue committee at the Church of Pentecost in Dzolokpuita. The initiative aimed to foster constructive dialogue and collaboration among political parties ahead of the upcoming elections, emphasizing the theme: “Together We Can Build Ghana, Get Involved.” This gathering served as a platform for stakeholders to discuss critical issues affecting the district while promoting civic engagement.
Mr. Dodzi Adei, the Ho West District Director of NCCE, addressed the participants, highlighting the vital role that all stakeholders play in advocating for peace and stability during the electoral process. He emphasized the importance of identifying and countering false information that could undermine the integrity of the elections. Furthermore, he urged attendees to promote religious tolerance and avoid hate speech and incitement to violence, which could disrupt the democratic process.
In a significant contribution to the discussions, Right to Information Officer Mr. Amenyo Foster took the opportunity to educate attendees about the Right to Information Act, 2019 (Act 989). He explained that the Act grants every individual the fundamental right to access information, thereby promoting transparency and accountability within governance. Foster provided insights into the application process for information requests, the types of exempt information, and the procedures for internal reviews, along with any associated fees.
The meeting was well-received, with participants expressing enthusiasm for the information shared and the proactive approach taken by both the NCCE and the RTI Officer. By integrating discussions about the RTI Act into the inter-party dialogue, the Ho West District Assembly is not only encouraging political collaboration but also empowering citizens with the knowledge needed to engage effectively in the democratic process. This approach aligns with broader goals of community development, fostering an informed electorate ready to advocate for their rights and engage constructively in governance.
