GITFiC to Launch Second National AfCFTA Survey in Ghana and Togo

The Ghana International Trade and Finance Conference (GITFiC) will commence a second national survey on the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) on September 23, covering Ghana and Togo.

The exercise aims to assess awareness, sensitization, and implementation levels of the continental trade agreement.

The survey will be conducted by the National Technical Working Committee, which includes representatives from the Bank of Ghana, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Trade, National Development Planning Commission, and other government agencies.

Enumerators from GITFiC’s AfCFTA Tertiary Clubs in universities across both countries have been trained for the two-week field exercise, which will proceed in phases until December 2025.

A press statement signed by the Chairman of the National Technical Working Committee, Selasi Koffi Ackom, stated that the survey will provide valuable data on how the AfCFTA is being adopted at the grassroots level.

“We encourage respondents to support the enumerators with accurate responses,” the statement urged.

The initiative falls under GITFiC’s AfCFTA Implementation Support Programme, part of its Agenda 2031. The first survey, conducted earlier, established baseline metrics on public awareness and institutional readiness.

“We appreciate the public’s cooperation as we work to strengthen Ghana’s role in continental trade integration,” the statement added.

Targeted respondents include businesses, traders, and stakeholders within key economic sectors.

Field enumerators will administer structured questionnaires in selected regions, with results expected to inform national AfCFTA implementation strategies.
