The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection is partnering with the Information Services Department to sensitise the public on the Ghana National Household Registration exercise a key programme of the government.

The exercise aims at registering households and individuals and collecting basic information on the socio-economic status of citizens to help the government identify and prioritize households living in vulnerable conditions to ensure that specific and targeted social programmes reach their intended targets

The sensitization, which is currently ongoing in the Central Region, is set to begin in the Volta and Oti Regions very soon.

At a training programme for officers of the ISD on GNHR in Ho on Monday, the Minister for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, in a speech read for him assured that ISD would play its part in educating and sensitizing the people on the Volta and Oti Regions to enhance awareness and encourage maximum participation in the household registration exercise.

He said ISD was a significant tool in communicating and educating the public on government policies and programmes in the country.

Mr Oppong Nkrumah said the government was working to retool the Department to effectively and efficiently deliver on its mandate.

“Under this programme, offices of the Department across the country would be refurbished and the necessary logistics as well as tools and techniques made available to the ISD to ramp up its capacity and ensure optimum productivity,” he added.

On his part, the Volta Regional Minister, Dr Archibald Y. Letsa, charged officers to use the best strategies to deliver the message to the public to easily understand and cooperate.

The training session would build the capacity of officers on the objectives, operations and importance of the Ghana National Household Registry.
