On October 1, 2024, the Information Service Department and the Right to Information (RTI) Unit of the Atwima Nwabiagya North District Assembly hosted a comprehensive training session for national service personnel. This initiative aimed to familiarize these young professionals with the provisions of the RTI Act, enhancing their understanding of how transparency and accountability are crucial in public service. Led by the RTI Officer, the session focused on Article 18, which outlines the application process for accessing information, as well as the important exemptions specified in Articles 5 to 10.
The training emphasized the significance of the RTI Act in promoting informed citizenship and empowering individuals to request information from public institutions. By clarifying the application process and discussing what constitutes exempt information, the RTI Officer provided valuable insights that will enable the personnel to navigate the complexities of the law effectively. This foundational knowledge is essential for fostering a culture of openness and accountability within public service.

Many attendees acknowledged the importance of understanding the RTI Act, recognizing that it equips them to serve their communities more effectively. They committed to sharing what they learned with their peers, amplifying the impact of the training and fostering a wider appreciation for the principles of transparency and citizen engagement.
