The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Mr Samuel Nartey George has presented GHS 20,000 to the Ghana Fencing Association as a show of support to sports development.
The presentation took place on Monday in Accra when the associationâs president, Mr. Mohammed Mahadi, accompanied by the national team fencers, Eric Malik and Isaac Teinor and the Administrator, Ibrahim Yakubu visited the minister.
The donation includes GHS 5,000 for each of the two national team fencers and GHS 10,000 allocated to the association.
According to the minister, the donation aims to support the fencers as they prepare for upcoming competitions, including the African Championship in Nigeria and the World Championship in Georgia, with the ultimate goal of qualifying for the LA 2028 Olympics.
Mr. George expressed joy in the fencers’ accomplishments, particularly their silver medal victory at the 2018 African Championships in Côte d’Ivoire. Thrilled that they come from his constituency, he reaffirmed his commitment to supporting their journey to the LA 2028 Olympics.
He pledged to partner with the Ministry of Sports to promote the Ghana Fencing Association. To demonstrate his commitment, the Minister contacted the Sports Minister, Mr Kofi Adams toseek his permission and collaboration in promoting the Ghana Fencing Association.
On his part, Mr. Mahadi briefed the Minister on the impact of fencing federations in his constituency, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts in promoting sports development.
