BOOSTING TRANSPARENCY: ATID ENGAGES DACF ON RTI IMPLEMENTATION

In a bid to reinforce transparency and boost access to information at the local governance level, the Access to Information Division (ATID) has held a high-level engagement with the Administrator of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), Mr. Michael Harry Yamson. The session, which took place on Tuesday, April 16, 2025, focused on strengthening institutional collaboration to support the effective implementation of the Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2019 (Act 989).

Led by Madam Bridget Mensah, Head of ATID, the delegation included Mr. George Frimpong Basoah, Sector Lead, and Madam Eugenia Adobea Addo, the designated RTI Officer for DACF. The meeting forms part of ATID’s regular oversight and monitoring engagements with RTI Officers across public institutions to ensure adherence to the RTI Act and promote a culture of openness in public service.

Discussions centered on the need to enhance awareness of the RTI Act among the general public, particularly on how information can be accessed regarding the allocation and utilization of the Common Fund. Both teams explored strategic approaches to improve public education, internal information flow, and the responsiveness of RTI structures within the DACF Secretariat.

The engagement concluded with a renewed commitment from both ATID and the DACF Secretariat to pursue joint initiatives aimed at building capacity, improving communication systems, and strengthening public engagement. This collaborative effort underscores the growing importance of the RTI Law as a vital tool for accountability, citizen empowerment, and transparent governance at all levels.
