The Volta Region Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC) recently organized a comprehensive sensitization program for the management and staff of the Agotime-Ziope District Assembly. The event aimed to ensure that every staff member is well-informed about the Right to Information (RTI) Act 989 and its implications.
During the event, Mr. Akuffo K. Reuben, the District Coordinating Director, stressed the importance of staff members being familiar with the RTI Act and its significance in their roles.
Mrs. Josephine Dake-Abrahams, the Right to Information Officer for the Volta Regional Coordinating Council, delivered an informative presentation covering the essence of the RTI Act, its historical and legal foundation, application procedures, the role of the RTI Commission, review and appeal mechanisms, exempt clauses, sanctions, and other critical components.

Mr. Richmond Abake, the Municipal Information Officer and Acting Public Relations Officer of the Municipal District Assembly, emphasized the importance of adhering to the principles of the law, contributing to deepening the nation’s democracy and strengthening its institutions.
The sensitization program, held in the Assembly’s Conference Hall, drew a substantial turnout, with approximately thirty-seven (37) management and staff members in attendance. The interactive nature of the program allowed staff and management to ask practical and pertinent questions, all of which were comprehensively addressed.
In his closing remarks, the Coordinating Director expressed his heartfelt appreciation to Mr. Abake and Mrs. Dake-Abrahams for their efforts in imparting this crucial knowledge. This initiative is an essential step in ensuring that staff and management members of the Agotime-Ziope District Assembly are well-equipped to uphold the principles of transparency, accountability, and the right to information in their daily responsibilities. It serves as a cornerstone in building a more informed and engaged society.
