AGONA WEST MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY HOSTS RTI SENSITIZATION SESSION TO FOSTER OPEN GOVERNANCE

On September 13, 2024, Isaac Esuon, the Right to Information (RTI) Officer for the Agona West Municipal Assembly, conducted an enlightening educational session at the Agona Swedru main Zongo mosque. The event aimed to raise awareness about thekk Right to Information Act, 2019 (Act 989), highlighting its role in promoting transparency and accountability within public institutions. The interactive session allowed participants to engage directly with the RTI officer, fostering a productive dialogue about the law’s implications for their community.

The sensitization addressed key provisions of the law, including how to request information and the significance of public access to government documents. Participants recognized the potential of the RTI Law as a vital tool to address the challenges they encounter in their daily lives, from local governance issues to public service delivery.

The interactive nature of the event was particularly impactful, as participants were encouraged to ask questions and share their concerns. This open dialogue not only clarified the provisions of the RTI Act but also allowed community members to voice the specific issues they hope to address through information requests. The relief and satisfaction expressed by attendees underscored the importance of making such educational initiatives accessible to various community groups, fostering a culture of accountability and civic engagement.

Isaac Esuon emphasized the need for continued sensitization efforts across the Agona West Municipality to ensure that citizens are fully informed about their rights under the RTI Act. He encouraged attendees to utilize the law as a means of improving governance and addressing community challenges. The success of this session serves as a reminder of the critical role that public awareness plays in achieving open governance and empowering citizens to hold their leaders accountable.
